From an early age, I was told I had no rhythm. In moments where it was required, I could never keep up with what was happening. When it comes to rhythm, I have it, but I overthink the dancing. I can’t relax enough to just flow. Ultimately, I look uncoordinated and stiff.
So when I discovered there was a rhythm to rest, I understood all too well why I was having trouble. My mind rarely stops long enough to relax into the rhythm. I have so many lists of things to do, conversations to have, responsibilities to manage, and commitments to fulfill. To simply be at rest sometimes feels impossible.
Just like dancing, there are many different styles, timings, and partners involved in the process of rest. As we go into the holiday season, I want to share three coaching questions that may help you find the beat to rest.
Focused Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1
What is the current tempo of your life?
Seasons have different beats for us all. With small children and many responsibilities, you may be moving to a fast-paced salsa rhythm. You may find yourself moving your feet and hands hurriedly, yet never stepping beyond your familiar square of influence. Or maybe you are doing a beautiful ballroom movement in adulthood with easy decisions and a few dips and graceful turns—the ones you anticipate because you know the routine.
Knowing what season you are in will help you determine the tempo and beat of your life. Evaluate your priorities and what sets the pace of your attention right now. This is where you’ll discover your truest tempo. Are you trying to perform a graceful ballroom step to salsa music? The rhythm of rest requires awareness of what you can handle. Don’t compare your rhythm to others. Focus on your own life and needs to find what fits best.
Who is your partner?

Are you ready?
Even when the music plays and the spotlight finds you, that doesn’t always mean it’s time to dance. There are things that can prevent our ability to move beyond what others can see or understand. With rest, a scarcity mindset may keep us grinding, the opinions of others may prevent us from showing up fully, and sheer exhaustion can leave us paralyzed where we stand.
Finding your rhythm of rest requires silencing those internal noises. Otherwise, you can’t truly hear your own beautiful song. Your life has more than a rhythm. It has a melody, a chorus, and tempo changes that rise and fall as needed. But are you ready? And if not, what is it costing you not to be?
Your rest must be intentional, your recovery sacred, and your rhythm chosen. Life depends on how well you honor its beat.
When you align with God’s timing, you begin to experience the peace that comes from moving in step with Him. There truly is a time for everything, and when you find your rhythm of grace, even your pauses have purpose.
December Focus: The Rhythm of Grace
Focus Verse: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” — Ecclesiastes 3:1
Woman of the Bible: Miriam (Exodus 15:20–21)
Miriam reminds us that rhythm is both movement and meaning. She teaches us that worship, rest, and rejoicing all have their time, and that when we align with God’s timing, our steps begin to flow with grace. Rhythm is not about rushing ahead; it is about knowing when to move, when to pause, and when to simply trust the One who leads.
Take a moment to reflect and find your rhythm of grace with these questions:
- How can I create space this month to move with grace instead of striving for control?
- What season am I currently in, and what rhythm is God inviting me to follow?
- Who or what has been setting the tempo of my life — and does it align with peace?

I’m always rooting for you!
